Toor dal chutney is prepared in many telugu families as a side dish to relish with steamed rice and a dollop of ghee. Quick and easy to make. if you are bored with the usual chutneys, then do try this.  I made this to have with Andhra Special Crispy Punugulu / Punukulu.

Ingredients
¼ cup toor dal
½ tsp cumin
3 red chilies (Kashmiri)
2 small garlic cloves
2 tbspns. Thick Tamarind extract (adjust as per your taste) (soak tamarind in hot water ,once coolsqueeze the pulp and filter to remove impurities)
salt to taste

seasoning
1 sprig curry leaves
1 garlic clove
2 green chilies
¼ tsp cumin
¼ tsp mustard
1 tbsp Oil

Method.

1. Wash toor dal and fry it in 1 tsp of oil till you get a nice aroma.
2. Fry red chilies on a low flame till they turn crispy, add cumin to the same pan.

3. Grind all the ingredients with little water to a smooth paste
4. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan, fry green chilies. Add cumin and mustard and once they crackel add curry leaves  and garlic, fry for 30 secs.  Transfer this to the chutney and mix well.
