Spicy bread snack
Toast 2 to 3 bread slices on a griddle, until crisp.
Cool and cube them
Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a pan. Fry 10 cashews or 2 tablespoons peanuts in the hot oil.
Add ½ tsp mustard seeds & ½ tsp split urad dal.
Fry 1 chopped green chili and 1 sprig curry leaves until they turn crisp. Add a pinch of hing.
Add ¼ cup chopped onions.
When they become golden, add ¾ tsp ginger paste or 1 teaspoon grated or chopped ginger.
Add ½ cup ripe tomatoes, salt and turmeric.
Next put in ½ tsp chili powder and ½ tsp sugar.
Saute for 2 more mins. Pour 4 tbsps water.
Add bread and cashews.
Mix well to blend the masala on the bread pieces well.
Squeeze some lemon juice over the bread upma and serve hot.
